| "Bridget Jones" struck a chord with millions of single women around the world. She's kooky, blonde, has a weight problem, a man problem, and it is British. If she were the creation of a man, who was reportedly banned for now. I loved the moment in this film, when Bridget slips for a fireman's pole and see her big panties up close. But then I laughed at the same gag, when it was on "The Benny Hill Show 'on 23/12/70. This is supposed to be a feminist comedy, even if its only memorable gag comes from an old television derided and pilloried for his so-called "sexism", you know something is wrong somewhere. Benny Hill, rest in peace. His legacy is intact. Renée Zellweger is his natural heir. |
| If you're looking for the deep meaning and around the world stirring questions, do not come here. However, if you're looking for a couple of hours of light entertainment, then this is the place to look Mrs. Zellwegger acquits itself well in this part of a young English woman who is on the verge of giving everything, but decided to make a major do-over with the help of her diary. It is not the heel of a philandering boss (Hugh Grant, his signature on the role of the faltering talker, with his first and UM) and Colin Firth (a favorite of mine). If you do not think much of Firth as a screen personality, then you have not seen the British television long form (6 hours) for the version of Jane Austen "Pride and Prejudice." His image of Mr. Darcy (the same name as her character in The Daily BJ) and is rounded, as one might expect. I enjoyed "Diary" and recommend it for what it is: entertainment without the need for deep reflection. |
| Colin Firth in the image of Mark Darcy made this a most memorable film for me! It is a joy to see the low-key act of Colin Firth, not to mention what this actor can do with your voice, eyes, gestures, movements and elegant in this movie. He makes it so easy to do! |

The fireworks begin when her charming though disreputable boss (Hugh Grant) takes an interest in the quirky Miss Jones and the ups and downs of their ill-fated relationship prove hilarious and touching at once. Thrown into the mix are Bridget's band of slightly eccentric friends and a rather disagreeable acquaintance (Colin Firth) who Bridget cannot seem to stop running into or help finding quietly attractive.
