| I usually do not write reviews of movies, but I feel compelled to air my views on this movie. This film was boycotted by the majority of Canadians and only played in a few theaters in the province, out of respect for the French Mahoffy and families. As a Canadian who was irresponsible morbid curiosity to see this movie, I was dismayed not only by the graphic content, but most importantly, the inaccuracies in this whole movie. This film portrays Karla Holmolka as victims of a housewife, undergoing Spousal abuse chronicled her partner Paul Bernardo. However, it left many important facts with an example how they murdered his sister (cutting the tendons of his ankles so that he could not escape), so her husband repeatedly in the rape of his sister, and about him laughed with her husband. This was documented in all the court transcripts and video that was recorded during the killings that the film was not recognized. Karla was not a victim in these horrific murders and was much more a participant who later portrayed, so please understand that if you choose to see this movie. |
| Unfortunately, after all the publicity, the final product came out as a bad straight to DVD movie. The performance and the direction is horrible, and though I like it intends to, was miscast here. It looks nothing like the real Homolka (the type of game Bernardo seemed to him a lot, but could not act). The script is pretty bad, is another of those "tell stories and get flashbacks of what he just said" movies. Therefore, seeing her say 'I met with him at a dinner ", and then we see her meeting with him in the dining room. The pace is not a trait the director is familiar with. The rest of the cast is really bad in this movie. And unfortunately, this film looks more Homolka as a victim, who was not. She did get beaten by Bernardo here and there, but she was part of the murders as much as he is and deserves to rot in jail. This film does not give that impression, which is bad. I would love to see a real director like Fincher (who was with great Zodiac) to this story. |
| Anyone interested in true crime, drama, the story of Paul and Karla or just get the hell scared of you, you should check out this movie. Despite the frenzy of media was the case in Canada is not the same in the United States, the story of this couple is like the tagline to say, deeply disturbing. My wife and I saw this movie and I got scared as he was. We've talked about it for days and still controls the locks on the doors at night. This is a great movie, and I think the director did a fantastic job interpreting this story. I would call entertaining and informative. Laura and Misha should be applauded for there courage to take on the roles of these people really sick. |
