| "Bobby" brings you back (if it exists) for the 60s, when those who protested the Vietnam War and racial injustice were driven from their heart and torn by anger and grief in their efforts to change . Yes, all characters in the film are quite normal and (sometimes) pretentious or pathetic shortcomings too obvious and easy to ridicule, but that could not recognize one or more of these cartoons. Robert Kennedy's assassination was considered by those who care for him or his mission to the presidency as a deep wound to our own vision of a world more just and compassionate America. The pettiness and simplicity of the characters in this movie are experts headed to reveal our own meanness and we identify with them, if not consciously, then subconsciously. Remember that the principle actors in Hollywood in this movie were paid union scale basic (virtually free of them) so this was done out of love. Our own little soap operas are put into perspective so deep that when it is killed, so they were, or at least the film allows you to feel that. You'll find you a lover of this man, Robert Kennedy, so it was and what he said during his candidacy, which is bright thread throughout the movie in their own words. Discovers he mankind is, of course, his own humanity and it is not is refreshing to mourn for you and your dreams lost as you cry for her. |
| The film was very well done, however, did not appreciate Estevez treatment of Robert Kennedy as a saint. In fact it was so far as to say in an interview that "the death of Bobby was the death of decency." Yes, Bobby was a very popular and influential political in its day, however, was not surprising since it represents. Secondly, it would not have won the presidential elections first, Nixon, however, would have won. McCarthy destroyed Nixon, who was neck and neck with Kennedy in the Dem primary. Senator Kennedy is simply a "rock star" politician. He made people feel good about themselves, but their speeches did not present anything really deep. I guarantee that if Kennedy was not a popularity would not be half of what it is today. Finally, it is clear Estevez was making an implicit protest at the war in Iraq. | I was not alive when Bobby was alive, but this movie puts his life and his speeches at the time. Anthony Hopkins, as usual, was excellent and was also the executive producer. The way the story is told through the lives of others at the hotel is a great idea that paid off. The film peaks near the end, when Bobby is giving his speech and when he was shot. The music played along with his speech to make a very emotional climax to the film that I found just fantastic. Its such a shame he was killed because I think it would have made a good president. I also want to recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see a great movie. |
| It seems that Emilio Estevez was destined to do this movie. He met with Bobby Kennedy when he was 5, I do not remember, but never let go of the idea that a movie should dramatize the events that have been associated with that fateful day in 1968, coincidentally 2 days before I was married. The cast is All-Star. The characters are fictional, except for the Hispanic busboy who was immortalized in the famous photo showing him next to Kennedy on the floor of the kitchen after being shot. There is an actor who plays Bobby Kennedy, but always see it indiscriminately, either blurred or partially obscured by others. But we see a bit of reality through Bobby file television footage. Plus the end credits also include a montage of Bobby and another member of his family during his lifetime. This is a good film, an important period in American history. Congratulations to Emilio Estevez to write and direct it. A good piece of cinema. |
