| I love this movie because it makes an important point about what Russia and the U.S. have gone through. When the film was made was a big project to take on a topic with such truth and the importance of what Russia and the U.S. have gone through many years. Russia a communist country and the U.S. a country known to others born outside the U.S. is known as the "Land of Liberty." I could feel the pain from each of the players missing from his innate instinct that once felt so much about their own countries. Living in each country compared to others who feel like they have come to know a better life, where in turn, that has really lost what they were looking for all along ... with their own freedom inside themselves. |
| I do not have much to add to the wonderful comments already made, except that the dancing in this movie are spectacular. Hines is a fantastic actor and dancer. Baryshnikov is absolutely sublime, both in their scenes of dancing and the raw emotion that shows in their desperation to return to American soil. In fact defected in real life, which was obviously a valuable lesson to draw from in this film. I love one of his lines: "I am still Russian, I'm just not Soviet." Despite the cold was (supposedly) more, this movie makes an excellent historical piece, as well as a wonderful film dance. I can see again and again, and still is nice. |

Download White Nights Movie HereNikolai Rochenko, a Russian ballet dancer who 8 years ago defected to the West. He is in a plane flying over Russia when all of a sudden, a malfunction forces the plane to land in Russia. The KGB tells everyone that his injuries are so severe that he has to remain confide for a while. But in reality they want him to return to them, so they bring him to his old apartment and an American, Raymond Greenwood, who himself defected to Russia several years ago, is placed there to keep an eye on him. However, Rochenko is not about to give in and is determined to escape. So with help from his former lover, he gets word to the Americans. And even Raymond is started to be disillusioned with Russia, and he has to decide if he is going to do what he was sent to do or help Rochenko.
