| I saw the film, Honeydripper, with Danny Glover in the Palm Springs Film Festival and today is wonderful music was lovely and great characters, great photography, and predict a great success in 2008. It has been a favorite of the audience and probably in the best-Fest next Monday. Glover is exceptional; may be a little long, but every person in the film is well marked. As a movie reviewer, I have given five stars. I wonder when it goes on general release so I can tell people across the country. The music of blues, rock n roll combined together. I recommend it highly. If this movie came out in 2007 would easily be in my top ten films of the year. |
| John Sayles has done it again. He has taken a world-class cast (including Danny Glover), some crisp picture, a very well-written and directed a script and musical score to die, and has made the screen magic. The story concerns an embittered juke joint owner (Glover), a former musician himself, trying to survive with a club in the output, which is trying one last step to prevent the closure by hiring a well-known musician named Guitar Sam, and to try to fill their club. Add a few other elements (a woman who is serious about re-connect with their faith, a corrupt sheriff, and other elements), and the formula for a successful story is all set. The story is set in apartheid South in 1950. Although the film was shot in 2007, now is just to get some scattered distribution. This film deserves much better than we're doing. The music score (composed and / or organized by Sayles' favorite composer, Mason Daring) is one of the feet and Tapper (which includes Delta Blues, Stride Piano, Gospel, Rhythm & Blues - years before it was coined "Rock & Roll 'by Alan Freed). Honestly, Honeydripper (the name of the juke joint coined by the title of the film) is for anyone who is interested in early music creative black (s). |
| The film was enjoyable. Only complaint was that he moved slowly, and with two hours ... indeed seem quite long. Reasonable plot, well-composed, well-acted and directed. Supporting actress for the character of China Doll had some very good moments. Strengthen the editing and best pace would have done much better. It is not the best movie in the world, but of good quality and high value of seeing - is likely to fall under the radar of Hollywood and the general population. The really remarkable thing was the music. While not a musical, be sure to wholeheartedly focus on the performers and music. Think "Black Snake Moan", but repeated cuts / editing. Those who love the blues, six-count blues and early rock-and-roll is likely to enjoy the movie. I intend to get the soundtrack. That apparently includes Ruth Brown end of the recording, as well as work by Dr. John and Mable KEB 'Mo Newcomer Gary Clark Jr., a Texan actor and musician shows good potential. Although this performance in Chicago and New His music festivals last year (with the "Honeydripper All-Stars" promotion of the film) were more dynamism and vitality to them. His performance of the song China Doll, John Saly apparently wrote / co-wrote, is otherwise quite entertaining. |
Download Honeydripper Movie Here1950. Rural Alabama. Cotton harvest. It's a make-or-break weekend for the Honeydripper Lounge and its owner, piano player Tyrone 'Pine Top' Purvis. Deep in debt to the liquor man, the chicken man, and the landlord, Tyrone is desperate to lure the young cotton pickers and local Army base recruits into his juke joint, away from Touissant's, the rival joint across the way. After laying off his regular talent, blues singer Bertha Mae, Tyrone announces to his sidekick Maceo that he has hired the famous electric guitar player, Guitar Sam, for a special one night only gig: pack em in and save the club. On the day of the show, the train arrives and Guitar Sam is no where to be found. Tyrone is forced to take drastic action. He makes a deal with Sheriff Pugh to release Sonny, the kid who hopped off a freight car here in Harmony, and turned up in the club claiming he could play the guitar as well as any Guitar Sam. Tyrone cleans Sonny up and launches a last ditch scheme to pass off the young guitar picker as Guitar Sam just long enough to cut the lights and run off with cash box. When Sonny takes the stage and launches into his first scalding electric licks, Tyrone will learn if it's lights out for the Honeydripper or if his luck has changed: he might just be another man saved by rock n' roll. Honeydripper features an all-star cast including Danny Glover, Charles S. Dutton, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Stacy Keach, Mary Steenburgen,Yaya DaCosta and Sean Patrick Thomas; as well as such notable musicians as Keb' Mo' and Dr. Mable John. It also introduces a major new talent, Gary Clark Jr. who makes his electrifying film debut as Sonny.
