| I was very moved by the soft power of this movie and the mood that you created. I think we should have come much more credit for what he did. I agree that Michelle Pfeiffer should have been appointed, but I believe that all executions pending, and that Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Lange portrays the deep affinity and conflicts of the sisters with great emotional depth and sensitivity. Although I have not read the book, I found the modern concept of King Lear very well. Of course, never in the game look quite the same way again! |
| I liked this movie a lot, but the feeling that came over me was by far the memory of how much they had enjoyed the novel. The movie features two of the best actresses working today - Jessica Lange, who is big here, and the divine Jennifer Jason Leigh, who does the best it can with the limited nature of traction that occurs - as well as a surprisingly good Michelle Pfeiffer and a constant Jason Robards. Adaptation is basically true to the book, at least as faithful who can be in one hour and forty minutes. The film does not really dazzle, with the exception of certain scenes between Lange and Pfeiffer, but a fund for job-seeker from seeing this wonderful story tragic. As far as the films adapted from novels go, this was definitely one of the best. If nothing else, that has sent me back to my favorite bookstore to rediscover excerpts from Jane Smiley's excellent novel, and back to King Lear to brush in the minor characters in order to see how deep the parallels go. It is worth your time as a movie, no doubt, and hopefully enough to make you remember that the reading of literature is a great joy, too. |
| I was really hoping for this picture, because I learned that Michelle Pfeiffer and Jessica Lange will star together. But when I finally went to see that I have to say it was a little disappointed. I am not saying that the film was bad, but the fact that I expected much more from it, I do regard, an average movie. The location was very poor editing and unacceptable. The adaptation seems to lack in many ways and Jennifer Jason Leigh was unbearable. But to see Pfeiffer ang Lange together on the screen made me forget everything. These two great actresses once again demonstrated his talent. When you see together on screen you forget all the disadvantages of having the film and there is nowhere else you want to be. Lange both deserve Oscar nominations and probably a prize too. Jason Robards, although not as good as some of its previous functions is too big. |
| A Thousand Acres (1997 :***) This sober drama lasted about a week in cinemas and was dismissed as sad saga by most critics. There are echoes of "King Lear" in the history of a wealthy farmer who decides to divide his estate among his three daughters. But I thought that the reviews overestimate the extent that the story uses the parallel Lear. It's just a catalyst for a strong drama of family conflicts and repressed memories coming to the fore soon going their own way. There are some problems screenplay: the youngest daughter of loyalty to his father seems quite inexplicable cruel, and as a lawyer you might think that she knows better than to put a hopelessly senile person in the witness stand. The fine cast does pretty well, especially Jessica Lange and Michelle Pfeiffer, although as usual Jennifer Jason Leigh is barely enough as the younger sister. Perhaps seeing this on a stormy Sunday night helped me put in mood, but may not receive a present. |
| I think that others have already commented on this movie, but I liked it so well that I wanted to say how good this movie is. I gave a rating of 9 out of 10. Do not get a 10 because it is very slow start. I almost get out of it, but I am glad we did not. Hang in there, it is well worth the wait. This is primarily a film about relationships: deception, trust and betrayal. Michelle Pfeiffer, Jessica Lange and Jason Robards bang done every job in this film. Located in the Midwest farm country, Jason Robards character is a farmer whose grandfather first settled there. The character of Jason is aging and decides to create a division of the confidence of thousands of acres of farmland between his three adult daughters. That's when the plot of this movie really starts cooking. Sisters turn against each other because of misunderstandings instead of the cupidity on the ground. They also make some discoveries about each other children, and their marriages today, including a case of adultery, while the father becomes increasingly abusive, demanding and paranoid - until the terrible truth about the whole world, finally comes to the boil. This film actually came to me emotionally, I got angry right along with some of the characters, and sad with them. I could feel their pain because of the excellent results that were hit. The final was a surprise to me, but in line with the growth of the characters. |
| This film is excellent in the way it portrays the reality of sexual abuse. Daughters perfectly express their conflicting emotions of love and betrayal. The location in the landscape is absorbingly authentic, and the soundtrack is discreet yet moving. This film is a postgraduate level in the course of a reality that is too little acknowledged in American society. Personally, I got scared by the names of the characters - Lange is the character of Ginny Cook Smith - my name is Connie Smith Cook, and my mom is Genny Cook. The girl is the daughter Caroline Cook, who is my sister name, and the father is Larry Cook, my cousin name.But sexual abuse was not in our immediate family. |
