As another IMDb'er mentioned, this movie is a visual moment after another, but, unfortunately, with the terrible sound. The reason for the bad sound is that the film was produced in the studios Cinecitta in Rome and at that time, all films were shot there without live sound. All that is named later: dialogue, music and all the ambient sounds. In addition, recording facilities in Italy primitive (this was only 11 years after the catastrophe of the Second World War), so it retains the quality of most of the dialogue. (One of the reasons why Antonioni's films are such a breakthrough in the decade that followed was his use of sound recording and location shooting). Anyway, War and Peace is a film that is worth more experience and the Technicolor Vidor Cardiff Vistavision visual, so the script that is often very beautifully written, and for many fine performances of some very charismatic film players, especially the stunning Audrey Hepburn. There are close-ups of her that make your heart stop. |
This film version of Tolstoy's novel captures well the essence of their story. The VistaVision, Technicolor photography of Jack Cardiff to the set of pieces looks like a classic painting. Nino Rota score of the lavish compliments perfectly the Pictures. The cast is excellent, and although Fonda is physically wrong with the critical role of Pierre, his dignified person is for him. Hepburn, as always, is radiant as Natasha, his successes and brand perfectly. Anita Ekberg of the superstructure Helene only brings to life; Ferrer, Homolka and Mills are all in the same way, in this marvelous. Underappreciated the great Herbert Lom as Napoleon is absolutely brilliant. Practically speaking, this is a remarkable film adaptation of a great literary work, despite the comparisons to make a careful between the book and movie. |
Beautiful movie to see (Oscar nom Cinematography was well earned). Fina epic movie score. Good direction and editing. Some of the best dresses for work each time in the film. No one today can still do a fine job of the costumes. Mel Ferrer is far from the same league as Omar Sharif was in "Zhivago." Sharif was great, only half Ferrer. Ferrer is a big drawback. Instead, Fonda shows tremendous ability to act (not having read the book I can concentrate on their performance, rather than if it is part). Hepburn is perfection and it offers a great acting performance. Yes, 1950 is a style of the film, which of course has some of the aspects. However, in the case of the costumes, cinematography and some of the acting can not do better in a movie of any era. This is an impressive all-around effort. |
The best thing for me about this version of War and Peace is the magnificent score of Nino Rota. I had the vinyl recording of the soundtrack in the'50s when they came out and practically memorized at the time. Later, as my study of music progressed, I realized how Rota had captured perfectly the essence of Russia with his music. Their model is larger and much of Tchaikovsky's music Rota is a great tribute to the Russian master. My greatest regret is that no stereo recording of this wonderful score has never been tried. To listen to the greatest comparison, listen to the Tchaikovsky "Serenade for Strings", and then listen to Nino Rota of "War and Peace." |
Rather disappointing story of some people who get involved with others. This makes the movie a few swooning story about love (one might say that becomes a sort of history of Jane Austen, which is not entirely bad, but it has nothing to do with Tolstoy) that do not capture the book of most beautiful moments:-Rostow 's "tremendous courage" when-ed flee the promotion of enemy forces after being wounded by his own horse. (What proves the stupidity of war)-Pierre' s duel (which including, but not in very good shape (for example, Pierre misses the certainty that he would die in the duel and his flirtation with death)) and following the conversion to the Masons What is worse, the movie goes against the spirit of the book, when the emphasis of the prophecy now. (While the book shows the case against the exact: the complete unpredictability where things are going next) Although I will not name a good effort to make a movie of "War and Peace ', I do not think you can do in the satisfaction in any way. |
Download War and Peace Movie HereAt the beginning of the 19th century, Napoleon's forces controlled much of Europe. In Russia, one of the few countries still unconquered, the army prepares to face Napoleon's troops in Austria. Among the soldiers are Nicholas Rostov (Jeremy Brett) and Prince Andrei Bolkonsky (Mel Ferrer). Pierre Bezukhov (Henry Fonda), a friend of Andrei's and self-styled intellectual who 'knows what's right but still does wrong,' is not interested in fighting. Pierre's life changes when his father dies, leaving him a vast inheritance. He is attracted to Natasha Rostov (Audrey Hepburn), Nicholas's sister, but gives in to baser desires and marries the shallow, materialistic Princess Helene (Anita Ekberg). The marriage quickly ends when Pierre discovers his wife's true nature. Andrei is captured and later released by the French, and returns home only to watch his wife die in childbirth. During a visit to the country months later, Pierre and Andrei meet again. Andrei sees Natasha and falls in love, but his father will only permit the marriage if they postpone it for one year. While Andrei is away in Poland on a military mission, Natasha is drawn to Anatole Kuragin (Vittorio Gassmann), a scoundrel and libertine. Pierre tells Natasha of Anatole's past before she can elope with him. Napoleon (Herbert Lom) invades Russia. Pierre visits Andrei on the eve of the battle, and observes the battle that follows. Traumatized by the carnage, he vows to kill Napoleon himself.
