| It took me 40 years before he finally saw this movie in December 2004, shortly after he was out on DVD. After the first half hour I thought, 'Wow, I can not see why this is so beloved movie, "but after it began late in a number of areas and the songs were too numerous. It seemed to be on the road too long. However, it is a good film worthy of anyone's collection. In my case, I might just skip some of the songs, such as Ed Wynn of laughter on the roof with a scene goes on forever, or Julie Andrews singing children to sleep. Condensed a bit, this 139-minute film would be more watchable. The DVD transfer is very good: rich colors pleasant and reasonably strong for a 40 - year-old movie. Andrews is quite wholesomely and Glynis Johns, even with his strange voice, it is also attractive. Children are the future kind of stupid, as are their parents. The other major character, the chimney sweep played by Dick Van Dyke, is a nice chap, but difficult to understand with this cockney impression. However, in the DVD, you can use when speaking English subtitles. Van Dyke surprised me with their singing and dancing talent. I did not know who was responsible. The film was one of the first efforts at mixing real life with animation and they did well. Remains to this day. |
