| Kenneth Branagh has so much talent that he does not know where to best use. Tip: Costume horror epics are just the place. This is a very unpleasant, indifferent to take the story of the infamous Victorian age crazy carrying a corpse to life. Lumpy, long, both disturbing and boring, Branagh does not even try to keep this thing on track. His own performance as a doctor is crazy hectic and uneven, and, puzzlingly, self-admiration. Robert De Niro as the monster is affecting, but some of their acts of violence clearly the next step in the line of bad taste. Handsomely produced, but not mysterious, just sour. * 1 / 2 **** |
| I have read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein to a level English and seen the movie around the same time for Media Studies. I enjoyed the book and I am a big fan of horror movie, but I thought this movie was horrible. It is difficult to believe that with this title by sticking closely to the book, and having such an impressive cast, which could be so horrible, but it is. Sometimes (often) when it should be horrified or scared, but they are laughing. It simply did not work and should best be forgotten! Spare and you see something else, Robert De Niro is in many many films much better than this, look for some of those and avoid this turkey. |
