My wife and I just saw this movie at the Seattle Film Festival. It is outstanding. There are some minor defects, but this movie has to enter the country for distribution. The only way that will happen is that if people read IMDb ask for it. Danny Glover should be nominated for an Oscar and the girl is a real possibility for a supporting actress nomination. This film tells an important story about how this country has ignored the plight of the mentally ill veterans of Vietnam (ready in twenty years for the same thing with the veterans of Iraq). It is too bad that made smart movies have trouble getting some of that Crapola distributed as long ago. Please contact your local cinema and asked to show this film. |
I saw missing in America in the projection in Bozeman, Montana. What a great movie! Hats off to everyone - especially Gabrielle Savage Dockterman! What a piece of an explosive first time you try! And little Zoe Weizenbaum, for her first time acting in front of a camera. Obviously, these two are destined for great things. I especially appreciate the sensitivity used by everyone involved in the production of this movie. It is an issue that has been discussed and described easily, but never with such passion, understanding, realism and class. The lack of heavy profanity and sex was so refreshing. Perhaps other producers take note that the exceptional films may be absent from obscenity. This is a must see for everyone, especially families! The theme is very timely with our involvement in Iraq. America deserves to have this movie in the theaters to help us all understand the effects of ill-fought, wars and misunderstood that gives us faith that even the hard core victims of war can be reformed if given the right opportunity . The attention to detail in this film was very impressive. However, I can not say enough about the good. Let's get to the cinemas! |
This is a powerful, beautifully designed and beautifully acted film. I cried like the friends sitting at my sides. However, there was humor along with the tragedy expressed with such depth of relationships, so it felt real knew these people. Appropriate at the time, with the object of what happens to those who have fought for our country and are left to survive their ordeal. This is a movie of our time and ages. One that should be seen by mothers and sons, fathers and daughters and especially those who irresponsibly choose to send our children out in the wars for power or justice. Those who choose to spend more money on the latter, more new weapons and ignore the effects of old ones. The directorial debut of Gabrielle Savage Docketerman was masterful. Danny Glover and Linda Hamilton show real-life chemistry and the quality of Oscar performances, all that shone out by young and very talented Zoe Weizenbaum. |
I was invited to a screening in New York City recently and thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Mr Glover and Zoe Weizenbaum of performances were excellent. The places in the film were some of the most beautiful I've seen and photography and lighting is impressive. The story is so-and rhythm and the characters were interesting and well acted. Mr Perlman artfully conveys plenty of emotion through his character without speaking a word. This film really is a powerful and sometimes gut-wrenching, examination of the lasting effects of the Vietnam conflict in which experienced the war. |
I was lucky enough to see the film at the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF) on May 28, 2005. Danny Glover and the rest of the cast did an excellent job portraying these injured people. I think that the time is right for a movie to examine the long-term effects on Veterans and their families. The fact that a conflict has ended does not mean that those affected are not yet experiencing its horrors. The direction, cinematography and script along with the acting, in my opinion, makes this movie worthy of a national vision. Danny Glover, Linda Hamilton, Ron Perlman and the performances were credible and memorable. The girl in the movie did a great job for his first film. Moreover, in SIFF writers of the script stated that the characters in the film are based on real characters in the Northwest. While watching the movie, I found some of the behavior of the characters is not realistic, such as launching of food out of people living in the desert, however, that information is stated that the initiative by some screenwriter. I hope this film will have national distribution. There is definitely an audience for it. |
I saw this movie at the Woods Hole in Falmouth Film Festival MA. It's a first kind of exploration of long-term damage from the war in Viet Nam. This is the story of Viet Nam, a veterinarian living in the forest NW, isolated, alone and wishing to remain so. One of the men of his troops appeared 30 years later, the tank of his half-Vietnamese boy and upset the carefully orchestrated veterinarian to remove from the world. The child becomes, as expected, the catalyst for the healing and renewal. For both conventional plot. What is unconventional is the depth of emotion and honesty of the writing and performances. This is a totally absorbing film that transfixes and seduces the audience with his strong but gentle feelings. That should get a first run in theaters, and perhaps some suggestions for writing, acting and cinematography. Danny Glover is perfect; Zoe Weizenbaum is a young woman who wants to see. An unforgettable film. Their pictures and the story stays with you. |
I loved this movie. I hope that everyone across America has a chance to see him. It had such depth that we're still talking about reflection, the issues raised. The topic is timely. Anyone who has been in the military, or knows a veteran should refer to it. Especially post 9 / 11 and Iraq, there has been more attention to the war in Viet Nam. He was great. I had only seen Danny Glover in action roles. He captured the character of a tormented lone extremely well. The girl is a treasure. Linda Hamilton is very credible as a tough widow of Alaska. The scenery is spectacular. I would love to see again, and have said dozens of friends and colleagues who need to see when you leave. |
