I liked this movie. It is not really about the assassination as much as about jealousy, obsession and about other conditions that can lead a normal sane person over the edge. It illustrates the human frailty and imperfection very well. There was a lot of twists in the plot and great acting by all. Sarah Polley, Catherine McCormack, in particular, were excellent. It was like seeing the same person in parallel periods of time, suffering the same emotions. The dark hair seemed cruel sister Karen as she taunted Maren with the tail of his brother coming to America. Adaline While it was not as "cruel", his relentless seduction tactics in front of Jean inappropriate and inconsiderate to say the least. I think this is a very good layout and nice mystery thriller. |
Despite its convoluted plot, there is much to admire about this image, in particular, the sexual tension that distills. Contemporary history is derivative of Polanski's brilliant knife in the water, while the flashback story is ripe with an ominous atmosphere and mood that overwhelms the rest of the image and maintains throughout the film. The set of performances are first-rate, a little uneven at times but overall committed. Elizabeth Hurley is appropriately sexy in his bit, and no less interesting than anyone else, despite what one might expect. This is a shady place, mood piece from Bigelow, whose reputation as a great director of action movies is apparent only briefly in this modest thriller. Well worth a look. |
When I finished watching "The weight of the water" I had the impression that I had only seen two different movies mixed together. One of them was very interesting, and that told the story of a murder committed in a small town populated by fishermen American immigrants 140 years ago. The other story is dull, the characters was a mess, and much of the narrative errors occurred at present and it is a journalist who travels (along with her husband, her brother and the girlfriend of one) so that small villages to investigate the incident and take some pictures. He told us about her marriage problems, and some other things that do not give a damn about. Therefore, a history destroys the other. A part of the script blows to the other, and even the actors (especially Sarah Polley) did a better job in the "historic" part. Yes, Sean Penn was there, but this time his performance was rather forgettable (which only shows us some of his best-known "tricks") ... and what about Liz Hurley's work! God, she may have an impressive body, but she is a very bad actress who, with his face looking femme fatal in 100% of the time. Anyway, I did not expect that much of Kathryn Bigelow. Any person did it? * My type: 4 / 10 |
When a film is produced in certain barriers, the establishment of believability, mainly, and the creation of sympathy with the audience / for one or more characters - I am ready to silence my inner persistent critic, which is perhaps a principle of frustrated pleasure of raising his head to be fed. Sarah Polley makes this movie. His acting was excellent, but I found myself in the first place, most enchanted by his "Norway" accent. As the movie was, I got addicted to the accent, which for me has become an integral part of their performance. She, not Hurley, not Penn, was the centerpiece of this film. But everyone was good, and the story of two lines were joined at the end satisfyingly. Until I looked at Sarah Polley IMDb not realize how busy he has been (and will). Also, a writer and director ... |
"The weight of the water 'tells two stories at once. Maren is the only story that keeps the viewer while taking part of the story is Jean halfbaked. Despite a stellar cast, the story of the latter requires further development. For example, one does not understand why Jean is so connected to the killings that occurred more than a hundred years ago. She was so drawn to what she prefers to give more attention to the absence of their marriage. With the exception of Jean, none of the other characters seem sufficiently defined for us matter. Maren history ends up dominating the others. It begins as a bored, but rather as events unfold, we are more involved in it. However, more importantly, what is the relationship between the two stories? That is a crucial point "the weight of the water 'does not do. Catherine McCormack does a good job with a difficult role. However, the script does not allow you to portray the complex emotions of her character is experiencing. Sarah Polley impressed too with a complex role. Sean Penn disappointed. It seems rather uninterested for most of the time. Elizabeth Hurley is fine as a brazen seductress. She does not look Sizzling but the script does not give much of their power to carry out. "The weight of water "Impactive tries to be a movie, but it just does not work. Only half of the film is worth seeing. |
Love, hate, jealousy, desire to work together, sometimes with disastrous consequences. Kathryn Bigelow together an interesting story based on a novel using these themes. Action bounced back and forth between the present with Catherine McCormack, Sean Penn, Elizabeth Hurley and Josh Lucas, and the past with Sarah Polley. A murder took place in 1873 and there is no doubt see the action that Polley committed. Unfortunately, a man hangs from the crime instead of her. Today the crew McCormack doing a great job as a photographer of the murder investigation seems to have some of the same problems that beset Polley. Her husband (PEEN) does not seem to take their eyes off of Hurley (and who could blame him, since it exposes the skin to a wide distract us from history should be delayed - not), and there are some indications that more could have happened . Just as things came to a head with Polley and a moment of madness overcame it, we can see the same things that happen in the present. Those killed are being debated 100 years later, and only a few people know what really happened. We can also see in the current situation and discuss what happened in the minds of the characters in the storm. Leaves no doubt, and that's what makes this an interesting story, in addition, of course, McCormack and performances by Polley. |
