I could not believe how horrible this movie was. It is virtually free of redeeming features. Poor Sarah Polley tries desperately to save the thing alone, but with lines like nobody can. These were some of the things that really grated: the total absence of sympathetic characters (a sad Lech, a dimwitted girlie, his family standard-issue clichZd stiffs, and a pathetic rental of a multitude of Bohemia, whose role in the film was decorative (such as house plants) rather than integral). A plot that anyone could have been filled after the first five minutes of dialogue that would have been embarrassing in a film of the 70s (the old art vs. commerce debate - please!; Picturesque words like "capitalism" and "bourgeoisie"; "I am studying the way" - Aaaaargh) generic feel-good scenes directly from Newton Cheesy cigarette ads, music unironic complete ignorance of the principles of photography (the photographers do not work like that). Perhaps excusable if it had been made by an older man - but a woman? Girls, we can do better |
The central point of the movie seems to be that this woman had great potential and need for this photographer who was outside. Throughout the film never showed us even a shred of talent and the audience is left to wonder whether there is any point at all. The whole affair seems even more incredible and horrible if in the end we were left with only a pathetic May / December romance. Every aspect of the film is a cliché. Well, but this created a critical need to move some results in this movie. It shows us the rebellion, withdrawal (in a closet no less!), Romance, sex, love and track potential (yes, the development of real talent). For all these promises we had nothing and were left holding an empty bag! |
First I must say that I saw this movie on video, as it did not come here at the cinema. The cast (Rea, Polley) looked good, and I liked 'The truth about cats and dogs, "the only film director Wells had seen before. But what a terrible loss, this turned out to be. The relationship between" old "Rea and his muse Polley does not look credible at all to me, although at an early scenes (which turned out to be one of the only sympathetic are) that seem to have been beaten pretty well. But as the film takes place, the story loses its promise and is getting worse and worse. Toward the end you get more and more annoyed with the main characters and finally you realize you've been seeing a terrible movie. |
Surprisingly awful, trite nonsense. I could not believe that actors and filmmakers - that are apparently part of an artistic community type - that portray "bohemians", so Cheesy. And what the hell was with the cutesy scenes of dancing with car-commercial background music? Did someone tell the director that is cool? I puked. Each "romantic" scene was equally unbearable (except for the sex scenes that were tasteless and disturbing). We all know people who think they are sophisticated, intelligent and cutting-edge, but they are actually vomitous, narcissistic poseurs. That love this "art film." You should avoid like the plague. |
I just saw a movie so bad, I am visibly shaken, almost to the point of vomiting. I love Sarah Polley. I think your mesmerizingly beautiful, and I thought he did the best we can do in this film, under the circumstances. That said, 'Connie' is merely crude. And even in gross terms, in a sort of passive way. Gross in a way that leaves you hoping and praying you can forget these memories, scratching to get the images of his head. Can someone tell me what he died of Connie? I mean, not even to say, right? Is the cancer, perhaps related to his constant smoking? Or is it something even more disturbing? I will tell you, what you did for me was the scene where he bites into some piece of food, and its f * Ing teeth fall out. I mean, it *$%?!?! that f I saw that and almost threw in my mouth. Then I went straight to the bathroom and brushed their teeth for half an hour. Poor Sarah Polley. Someone put in a good movie. I still liked 'Go', in which Polley completely steals the entire movie of Katie Holmes. |
Download Guinevere Movie HereConnie, an aging Bohemian photographer, meets mousy Harper, headed for Harvard Law from a high-powered San Francisco family, and immediately sees her beauty. He also guesses she has talent and invites her to be his pupil and share his bed. He's Alfred Stieglitz, she's Georgia O'Keefe, and he calls her his Guinevere. When she realizes she's the latest Guinevere in a string of ingenues, she bolts, only to return, sick of her family. She's blossoming, reading, learning, but hasn't yet taken her first photograph when he tells her they're going to L.A., broke, him drinking too much, to sell some photographs. On the trip, she finally snaps the shutter; so does her awe and dependence.
